“E” stands for Emotions. Paired with thoughts and beliefs, emotions are a reliable indicator of what is inside our minds. When positive emotions are present, do not change a thing—our thoughts and beliefs are working well and creating what we like in life. Negative emotions are more complex. They serve several important purposes—and one of those is an indication to look at the quality of our thoughts and beliefs. (Example: A sad feeling can lead us back to the thought, “Being alone is terrible,” allowing us to examine this thought and restate it in a more helpful way.)
